Is that fair comment?

From reading people's opinions it seems they are impressed with the work of Slash, but its Scott that doesn't come to the party and take Contraband to the next level.

Yeah, most reviews are like "In this song Scott doesen?t sing very well, but SLash saves it with a his solo!" or "Slash solo kick ass, but Scott screws it up pretty much"

I don't really know what people expected of Weiland.  I've never owned an STP album, although I've liked a lot of their hits, they are catchy and he's a charismatic guy.  But he's not the type of vocalist that you listen to over and over again.  He's just not.  

it's a very interesting question. i haven't heard the album yet so i can't say for sure, but i have always like Scott. I thought perhaps any disconnect between band and lead singer could be due to the fact that Scott has recently gone through some heavy shit (that he is not entirely out of) that those other guys haven't experienced in quite some time, meaning those issues are not as relevant to Slash and co. anymore.
But then i remembered that Axl was never on the same page as the rest of his band and still they were brilliant and no one was complaining of a disconnect between him and them during the Illusions days (when he was really going through some tough shit), so i don't know what the answer could be.. ???

Ive been listening to nothing but STP for the past 2 weeks, and the bands best moments are trascendent - as good as GNRs best, in my opinion.  That includes Scotts vocals.  His melodies in "Lady Picture Show," for example, are downright beautiful.  Another non-STP track with amazing melodies is The Magnificent Bastards' "Mockingbird Girl," especially the end.  Theres more, but Ive praised Scott on this subject in plenty of other threads, so Ill spare you.

But if you dont dig Weiland, thats cool.  Im not qualified to give an opinion on his performance on this particular album (Ive liked everything Ive heard so far...), but I would only suggest you check out more of his material before writing him off like that, because theres plenty of people that listen to him "over and over" again.  

The only thing I would say about Scott on this album compared to his excellent work in stp is that it just seems like it doesnt work. LIke the sound the band created and scotts lyrics voice....you'll see what I mean when you hear the album Booker....

Well, I have heard his solo album, and I didn't like it.  I'm not saying Weiland and STP weren't talented, they were, but imo, his voice isn't the type that rises up and smotes you in the face.  Which is what some people were looking for I guess.  But others disagree, yeah.

I really think they should have taken more time with the album andgot it perfect. The music is good and the vocals are good but it could have been done better but it's still good music.
