Jeff Beck was going to play Locomotive with the band in that famous Paris show in 1992, but the had a health problem one day before the show (something like that).

I don?t know if they played without him.

I had an MP3 of 'Locomotive' somewhere once, but I didn't like it. IT was palyed at a slower tempo - the beat sounded almost hip-hoppy :crying:

gnrontour.com should have everywhere that it was played if you're desperate to find out, you'll just have to have a lot of patience going through every show from every year from '91 to '93 ;)

No, they didn't play it. Axl announced they had planned to perform a song with special guest Jeff Beck but he  couldn't make it because he had fallen ill the night before. " We wish him all the best and maybe we'll do it agan next time...in the mean time, how about a little bit of Arnold...You could be mine!!!!!" I think I've watched that show at least 100 times...

A little bit of topic but, I never really liked that song. I never really got into it. In one of the "making of" didn't Axl mention something about adding Locomotive and then Coma to the video trilogy?

I have the Paris reharsal with GNR and Beck playing Locomotive - without Axl. You can ask me in the hub for this one. I have the Tokyo, NY and Inglewood mp3 too.

I don?t know about the trilogy, never geard it. IMO, Locomotive, along with Breakdown, Don?t Damm Me and some of Illusions songs, is the kind of song song that grow slowly in you...

When I bought the Illusoins, I hated this songs, and others like Perfect Crime, and now I just love them.

Back into the topic, it?s interesting that they played some songs (that I think it?s so great)  very few times, like this ones I mentioned, expect Perfect Crime.

I dunno, but the song sounds messed up in the reharsal, not that good. Beck is an awesome player, but I guess he didn't know the song right. Also, Slash plays almost as he was playing the regular lead guitar part, wich didn't fit too good with Beck's playing.
So, IMO, it didn't sounds cool for everybody and Beck made an excuse (or maybe Axl)...

Are you on about that Paris 92 mtv report that shows them rehearsing?

You can't tell from that how the song would sound. Besides which, I'm sure Slash and Jeff Beck know how to make a song work and sound good.

I hope you're joking about the idea that Axl asked Jeff Beck to drop out because the song sounded shit. That's just beyond ludicrous.

Beck's reason for dropping out was tinnitus...
ringing in the ears...I believe he blamed it on the amp volume during the rehearsals pre-show, saying he was afraid of suffering permanent hearing damage beyond what he already has.

Ok, I didn't mean that Axl asked Beck to drop out. Anyways, it's just speculation, no big deal.
About how the song "would" sound, I have the mp3 of the song with Beck in the rehearsal, I didn't saw this mtv report stuff. Of course Slash and Beck knows how to make a song work, but without rehearsal it can be a hard job to do, don't you think?
I said this because I heard the song and it didn't sounds too good for me, it could be a lot better IMO.  : ok:
