Title: November Rain solo # 6 in 100 greatest solos Post by: ccorn69 on April 30, 2004, 09:46:37 PM hey y'all i was checking out a website which i use for tabs and found this poll on the greatest guitar solos ever i wasn't sure if it had been brought to the attention of the HTGH community. Slash is on the list twice 6th for November rain and 37th for SCOM. Im biased but I think more solos should have been included from Slash solo from estranged comes to mind quickly. what do you all think?
the link for this is http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/general_music_news/top_100_guitar_solos_of_all_time_unbiased_this_time.html Top 100 Guitar Solos Of All Time: Unbiased This Time? About.com recently reported on a Guitar World Magazine readers poll. The poll was to determine the greatest guitar solos of all time, and they listed the top 100 solos. While it's bound to spawn some controversy, it certainly hits closer to the mark than most of the recently published "best guitarist" polls by various magazines and online publications. With a top 10 that includes "Eruption" (Eddie Van Halen), "Crazy Train" (Randy Rhoads), and "All Along The Watchtower" (Jimi Hendrix), it's obvious the poll has a rock music bias, but there is no disputing the impact that these artists have had on popular music. Jimi Herdix's songs listed three times in just a top 20. Having said this, a dispute over best guitarist of all time can be ended. What follows is the list of top 20 solos, listed with the guitarist who played the solo, the band who released the album, and a link to the tab. Top 100 Guitar Solos Of All Time List: 01. Stairway to Heaven by Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) (tab) 02. Eruption by Eddie Van Halen (Van Halen) (tab) 03. Freebird by Collins/Rossington (Lynyrd Skynyrd) (tab) 04. Comfortably Numb by David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) (tab) 05. All Along The Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix (tab) 06. November Rain by Slash (Guns N' Roses) (tab) 07. One by Kirk Hammett (Metallica) (tab) 08. Hotel California by Don Felder/Joe Walsh (Eagles) (tab) 09. Crazy Train by Randy Rhads (Ozzy Ozbourne) (tab) 10. Crossroads by Eric Clapton (tab) 11. Voodoo Chile by Jimi Hendrix (tab) 12. Johnny B. Title: Re:November Rain solo # 6 in 100 greatest solos Post by: Booker Floyd on April 30, 2004, 09:55:50 PM I was listening to it today, and it gave me chills. Even after all these years and listens. Very rarely does a song do that.
Glad to see it near the top, although I think I might put "SCOM" in front of it. Title: Re:November Rain solo # 6 in 100 greatest solos Post by: Eduardo on April 30, 2004, 09:56:27 PM The list?s good. Although I think Eruption is way overrated, and One shouldnt be on the list... Metallica has better solos.. I think Tunnel of Love by Dire Straits should be on that list, or maybe Sultans of Swing. And I 100% agree with the number 1, its incredible what Jimmy Page did with a simple pentatonic, that solo is amazing.

I agree dude Eruption is overated it's more a case of Eddie Van Halen showing how fast he can play not how great, and as for Metallica's 'One' the majority of the songs on Ride The Lightning have better Solo's, although Lars Ulrich would probably try and tell you St. Anger has better Solo's :hihi: The list is like the 'Commercial' Solo's list otherwise Estranged would have been on No Motherfuckin' Doubt! Title: Re:November Rain solo # 6 in 100 greatest solos Post by: blues_rock_axeman on May 01, 2004, 11:03:33 AM Why in the name of frig did that hack Kurt Cobain get higher in the list than Brian May's genius piece 'Brighton Rock' or even Joe Satch's masterpiece 'Surfing With The Alien'? The Smells Like Teen Spirit solo sucked ass!

I mean how can you get a total precise list, i mean not everyone might like "One" by Metallica or like "Stairway To Heaven" by Led Zeppelin etc. They are pathetic! On the upside at least GNR got a say unlike Crappy Rolling Stone mag! Title: Re:November Rain solo # 6 in 100 greatest solos Post by: Aero on May 01, 2004, 03:56:47 PM thats pure commercial shit
