Title: the name velvet revolver
Post by: page on April 03, 2004, 09:48:52 AM
Am I the only one you have thought about the fact that vr is a very similar name to gnr.
Velvet=a flower=rose  -  revolver=a weapon=guns

If I remember correctly, the Velvet part was Scott's idea.

You do remember correctly.  Slash said the band was gonna be called Revolver but Scott came up with Velvet.  Slash said it was typical Scott and it was perfect.

I think the name sounds like one that an old pop metal band would have had...

I suggested that several months ago and got slated for looking too hard into things. It seems obvious to me that there is a semantic relation between "Guns n'Roses" and "Velvet Revolver". Except that a velvet isn't a flower, is it ? Rather a soft fabric...

The name has grown on me..but i always feel slightly embarrassed mentioining it, it ain't a good name.........

Velvet revolver is very similiar name to Guns N' Roses - the contrast of hard and soft 'velvet' and 'revolver', i think its a good idea but they could have picked a slightly better name....

Too much of a GNR association....they were the 'guns' Axl was the 'rose', revolver tied in with that too much, perhaps it still does....

I like the name velvet revolver, but the similarities to GN'R makes me put off by the name a little

the guys make it clear that they are very proud of what they accomplished in GN'R. Just because they're going with a similar name doesn't mean they don't want to move, which they clearly want to do with VR.

I love the name.

I would relate Velvet to a fabric or a color but a flower never comes to mind.

For a band that wants to distance themselves from GNR, Velvet Revolver sure seems like a bad choice.

Either way, when their cd comes out it should make us care less what they call themselves.

flowers/roses have a velvety feel to em
and a revolver is a gun.
good association i guess.
but yeah the velvet was scott's idea, which is fine with me.
VR is going to be uncanny

I hate the name. I'm used to hear it now, but when it came out I thought it was awful. Why the revolver there? too many similarities with Guns. I actually liked "the Project" much more. It had grown on me.

hmmm The Project was still the best one if you ask me but hey, they picked VR, VR it is!!!

but about the Velvet Revolver thingy: I remember an interview with Slash and Scott a day or two after VR was made official and Slash said that Velvet came from Scott and that he thought it sounded good and it fitted him, it was typically Scott and it sounded good in his opinion, also he likes the name, the revolver too, because it's open to interpretation, it has several meanings, and one of those meanings, the one he mentioned, was "revolving" as in revolving doors, as in the bandmembers themselves and the way they are with eachother, so I think that may have more to do with it than a weapon!

Yeah, sounds nice.
I also like Reloaded as much as VR (maybe even more ) . It has the same meaning, maybe more defined to fans, but it sounds better like Duff's title (from Loaded). Could it be the reason they didn't take the title?

yeah Duff himself said he didn't want that... it was too much like his band, first you had Loaded, then Reloaded and they weren't a solothing where Duff was the main artst, they were a band and everyone was equal, something like that  ;D
