Title: Chances to stop Greatest Hits?
Post by: lastroots on February 18, 2004, 04:14:38 PM
I just talked to a friend of mine who works at a local record store in Cologne and I asked him about Greatest Hits. He also recognized what is going on but does not have it on his release schedule now. If March 15 will happen, he said he expects information within less than a week. If the date does not get pushed back, March 15 is a monday, he said he should have the album in his hands at the latest by March 11 or 12. So there we go.

Just three weeks until the thing gets delivered to the first stores.

Is there the slightest chance that Axl may be able to stop this?

we'll know long before that.
This CD will be in magazine advertising and will be in the Sunday ad of your favorite music retailers. These have to go to press at minimum 3 - 3-1/2 weeks before the street date.
If the label and GnR reach a compromise or if there is any issue of the GH Cd not being released, then they'll pull it from the ads at the last minute. They don't want to risk having it print and paying bigtime $$ for correctioon notices in all the major newspapers. II work in advertising for one of these retailers, so if it gets pulled I will know by the end of next week at the latest.

i think its entirely out of axl's control now. as you said the first copys should hit stores in 3 and a 1/2 weeks. the album already got yanked back in November in less then 24 hours, only more bad publicity will be hurled towards the Gn'R legacy if the album is pulled again :-[

I don't think so. This GH desaster is all over the web now, everyone knows by now that there is a record scheduled and that the band (or Axl) tries to pull the plug on it. So I think it would do more harm if it does NOT get pulled, get what I mean?

I only think that there are no more chances. The songs have been remastered, which of course was expensive. And with the time frame of only three weeks I'm sure the cds are already pressed and ready for shipping, right? Lesty?

That's why I think there's no more chance to stop this.

I think they were supposed to come out with ANOTHER greatest hits this year.  I think I remember that being the case at least.

i recall a few months back I bumped up an old thread about the song breakdown.  The thread was in the GNR section, and had been for 2 or 3 years.  as soon as i bumped it up, it got 2 replies, and then moved over to dead horse for some reason.  I even took the effort and searched for the topic and did not start a new thread or anything.

thanks admins   ;)
